What educators are saying

Great mini unit! I needed something to fill a week while we waited for their copies of Much Ado to come in. This was a perfect introduction to a longer unit on Shakespeare. I used this with my Honors Brit Lit students and it was very accessible but still challenging. Thank you!
Given the nature of the last two years of school, many of my seniors had little experience with Shakespeare, so this resource was a wonderful introduction for them! Thank you for a great resource!

Description

This 6-8 day customizable Shakespeare introduction unit contains the materials and lesson plans needed to teach students the life of William Shakespeare and the basics of his sonnets. This includes a background into the rhyme and meter of the sonnet form. It could be used in any ELA classroom as an introduction to Shakespeare or one of his plays. I use it in my Shakespearean Literature course before reading any of his plays.

The bundle includes:

  • Introductory powerpoint to sonnet form and subject
  • QR Code webquest or gallery walk to introduce Shakespeare's life, career, writings, and legacy.
  • Handout and suggested instruction for iambic pentameter
  • Lesson activities and resources to teach three Shakespearean sonnets (18, 71, and 29)
  • 2 different quizzes assessing details of Shakespeare's life, sonnet form and meter, and the meaning of an untaught sonnet
  • 2 sonnet projects (one group, one individual) for the end of the unit
