Description

After learning about each short vowel, we play short vowel bingo together as a whole group. Pass out the blank bingo sheets and a highlighter to each student. If you are focusing on the vowel a, that page should be displayed on your smartboard for all to see. Children will copy 9 words onto their worksheets. One student is called up to the smartboard to read one word and highlight it. He/she will choose the next student to come up and read and highlight and so on until you have a bingo winner. You can give out stickers or small erasers as a prize. You could play everyday and get really great word work time or you could do it as a Fun Friday review period.
(One of the cute things I notice is that not all first grade children realize that they can look at their worksheet and highlight a word that they have. It is so adorable!)

Once all the children understand how to play you can open this up as a word work center.
Enjoy!
