Description

Show not tell writing is an essential building block before doing any kind of narrative, descriptive, or fiction writing with your students. There are four worksheets, all with a different focus, plus a writing page with a prompt for practicing the skills learned.

What you get:

Five Well-Structured Worksheets: Each worksheet is specifically crafted to focus on a different aspect of language usage in storytelling. By completing these exercises, students will build their vocabulary, develop sentence variety, and learn how to use figurative language effectively within their narratives.

  • The first handout guides students though creating a word picture, and then building a new sentence using it.
  • The second handout emphasizes specific language in their writing. It requires students to come up with alternatives for basic words, and rewrite a few sentences.
  • The third handout focuses on sensory details. There is a paragraph to read and match senses to, along with other examples. Students also write sentences using the senses for a given object.
  • The fourth handout focuses on figurative language (similes). Students rewrite eight sentences that include a simile for given senses.
  • The fifth handout includes a writing prompt where students can select a location and describe it in detail. There are questions at the top of the page to help guide students in what to include.

Easy-to-Follow Instructions: Each worksheet comes with clear instructions that guide students through the language practice exercises step-by-step. This ensures that they can easily work independently or with minimal teacher guidance.

Empower your students to become master storytellers! These practice worksheets provide a structured and engaging approach to help students improve their writing skills, expand their vocabulary, and add depth and creativity to their narratives. Order your set today and witness the transformation in your students' storytelling abilities!

These worksheets are excellent for middle or high school students! It's fun, too! And they love sharing what they've come up with:)
