Interactive Notebooks and lapbooks are a type of differentiated portfolio or collection of student work on a variety of topics using flaps and/or folded displays. Lapbooks allow students to showcase their work by providing them an interactive space for sketches and drawings, story summaries, graphical information, timelines, charts, and other forms of written work. Best of all, they can range from any topic or unit study. They truly let students creatively display their work in a way that interests them the most, which allows for a multitude of differentiation for each individual student.

    Product Description

Social Studies Themed STEM / STEAM: Prince William's The EarthShot Prize

Do your students have what it takes to save the planet?

On December 31, 2019, Prince William announced what was described as “the most prestigious environment prize in history” to encourage new solutions to tackling the climate crisis.

The “EarthShot prize” will be awarded to five people every year over the next decade and aims to provide at least 50 answers to some of the greatest problems facing the planet by 2030.

They include promoting new ways of addressing issues such as energy, nature and biodiversity, the oceans, air pollution and fresh water.

The prize, inspired by US President John F. Kennedy’s ambitious “Moonshot” lunar program and backed by Sir David Attenborough, promises “a significant financial award” for ideas that can help reverse the damage that has already taken place due to the heavy use of fossil fuels. The Duke of Cambridge, a grandson of the Queen and second in line to the throne, said the Earth was “at a tipping point” and faced a “stark choice”.

The award, which will be launched in 2020 and granted from 2021 on, is open to individuals as well as communities and businesses. Here’s where you and your students come into the picture! Challenge students to collaboratively think of ideas that can help repair Earth. After all, our students can certainly come up with brilliant ideas too! Harness their curiosity and listen to their ideas to hopefully come up with solutions that can allow our planet to heal and become more balanced for future generations. You never know…one of our classes…one of our students…may just save the world. This product is designed to be used as a social studies based, project-based, hands-on unit when studying environmental issues.
