Description

This resource targets the research-supported strategy of text structure instruction! It should help you to easily provide this type of intervention to students at a variety of language levels.

There are 5 main text structures targeted in this resource:

1. Sequence – Events that go in order.

2. Describing – Telling all about one topic.

3. Compare/contrast – Saying what is similar and different.

4. Problem/solution – Describing a problem and ways to fix it.

5. Cause/effect – Naming the reasons why something happens.

It includes three levels of activities plus graphic organizers, visuals, and writing worksheets.

Level 1 is the largest and where you’ll spend the most time. This is the section where you will teach each text structure type one at a time.

In addition, I’ve included Boom Cards™️ to make this teaching more accessible to all students, including those with a lower language level. The Boom Card™️ activities are also a great no-prep option for all ages!

Levels 2 and 3 are carryover focused and challenge your students to think about all of the text structures at once (either in texts or in real life scenarios).

Last, lots of project ideas, graphic organizers, visuals, and writing worksheets are included to make it easy for you to expand on this strategy in a variety of ways!

There is a total of 309 pages in this resource... PLUS all of the Boom Card™️ activities!

There are 10 texts for each text structure type included in the Boom Card™️ activities. They are shorter, simplified, include real picture visual support, and the strategies are shown in a more interactive format!

Text structure is an effective, research-supported reading comprehension strategy for students with language and literacy needs!

The five targeted text structures can be found in both fiction and non-fiction texts however non-fiction are the primary focus of this resource.

Because this file is big and targets 5 different text structures, the files are broken apart into separate folders to make them easier to access and manage. In addition, editable text boxes (that you can type directly into!) are included throughout.

Read more about how and why I target text structures in this blog post!
