The Box Elementary Play Script on Rumors Drama Club Readers' Theater
What's in the box? Is it the sports equipment? Craft supplies? A Bengal tiger wearing SCUBA gear?? No one knows, but that doesn't stop the children from leaping to wild conclusions, and learning a lesson about spreading rumors.
This one-act play was written for my 3rd-5th grade Drama Club to accommodate 23 performers, with differentiating roles ranging from a few lines for struggling readers to powerhouse roles for the attention-seekers.
Because the drama club at my school is intended primarily as a Readers' Theater, I tend to avoid costumes and props; but one of the children's parents had just purchased a washer and dryer and was kind enough to lug in the big boxes, so I taped them together horizontally and wound up with a box large enough to hold a Bengal tiger. Imaginary boxes work too!
Production time ran about 40 minutes.
The surprise ending had all elementary grade levels gasping! I hope you will enjoy it.
