What educators are saying

My students loved this activity! And it worked well as a Schoology assignment. I will be purchasing more!
LOVE this resource! It really brought to life the concepts of how the world changed during this time and the resources that were used to bring about those changes. My kids really enjoyed this. I HIGHLY recommend this! It did take us two days to finish, though...

Description

This simulation focuses on the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in England in 1745 and going until 1850.

It's set up for Distance Learning/Remote Learning/eLearning:

  • Your students can do it at home on their devices and share/email you their "drawing"
  • A video portion guides teaches them about life in England before the Industrial Revolution, models how to set up their village and then takes them from 1745-1850 and the changes happen. Students add to their own village as the video directs them.
  • Has closed captions in the video

It's simplified

  • The information is read out loud to them and is simplified language as compared to the Urban Game's found online to suit my behind grade level students.
  • Some parts of the Urban Game I based it off of aren't included as I wanted this to be less info dumping on my kids and more them visualizing what happened during this time period.

What's Included?

  • A document with directions, all the links below and a key for the wrap up chart
    • A link to an entertaining YouTube video that teaches and models what the students should be doing with both historical visuals and entertaining relevant gifs
    • A link to a google drawing that the students will be making their village one
    • A link to a wrap up comparison chart

The video portion will likely take students one and a half 45 minute class periods to complete on average and the wrap up chart can be done in 15-30 min for most students.

IN State Standards

  • WH.5.6 Explain the causes and conditions of the Industrial Revolution in England, Europe, and the United States.
  • WH.5.7 Examine the economic, social, and political changes caused by the Industrial Revolution and their impact on the development of political and economic theory

*There are many versions of the Urban Game online, so I'm not sure who to give credit to for the original version.* If you are able to verify which online paper version of this resource is the original please contact me.
