Description
Need a real world application to show students how useful inverses of sin, cosine, and tangent are? In this activity, students find missing angles in furniture construction designs using trig!
The set includes 6 drawings with a total of 21 missing angles.
Students will use their knowledge of trig ratios, inverses, and angle relationships (such as parallel lines cut by a transversal and complementary angles).
Two versions are included:
- Large drawings showing each design on its own sheet
- One sheet that includes a smaller version of all six designs
Use the individual sheets to make this a group work or gallery walk activity. Or, use the smaller version to give students individual practice with trig.
An answer key, detailed work for answers, and an extension activity are included as well.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.Math.Content.HSG.SRT.C.6Understand that by similarity, side ratios in right triangles are properties of the angles in the triangle, leading to definitions of trigonometric ratios for acute angles.
CCSS.Math.Content.HSG.SRT.C.8Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems.
