What educators are saying

Thank you! Will definitely use it again! The students were engaged and it didn't take too long. Very easy to grade.

Description

This is an awesome Valentine's Day Science Activity! This lab includes skills students need to review such as making predictions, observations, collecting and analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and more.

This lab is best used after students have already learned the concepts of lab safety, measuring in the lab, chemical reactions and density. All students can learn from this awesome lab experiment and there is little teacher prep or materials needed! Students especially enjoy when I have a few extra pieces of candy to reward them for a lab well done!

The materials needed for this lab include:
Candy Conversation Hearts
Graduated Cylinders
Beakers
Vinegar
Water
Soda
Rubbing Alcohol * Can add food coloring to the rubbing alcohol if you wish *

Let your students have fun experimenting with the conversation hearts! They will also be asked to provide answers with their data results and factual reasoning in their conclusion questions. A key is included that answers specific questions and hints provided for "answers that will vary" according to student results. This is a great Valentine's Day lab. Students will love it.
