Description

7.4 The student will a) describe and determine the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms and cylinders; and b) solve problems, including practical problems, involving the volume and surface area of rectangular prisms and cylinders.

8.6 The student will b) describe how changing one measured attribute of a rectangular prism affects the volume and surface area.

A fun interactive math game that gets students involved and excited in class. There are many different ways to play and use this activity. I personally create teams and have students solve each problem on small personal white boards for quick assessment. After all students have answered the question I check their work for understanding. Teams that have all students with a correct answer earn a point for their team and then each team gets a chance to have one member of the group come up and shoot a free throw at a small Nerf Basketball Hoop. I reward teams that make the basket with another point. At the end of class I reward the winning team. You can also reward teams for behavior as well, such as being on task and quietly working.
