What educators are saying

This is a very comprehensive resource to cover weathering, erosion, and deposition. Everything is broken down nicely and it was useful while teaching this unit.
This is the resource that I use to teach this unit since I do not have science books. The resource provides activities and assessments. The vocabulary with pictures is extremely helpful. I am super satisfied with this bundle.

    Description

This unit is great for anyone who teaches slow changes to the Earth from weathering, erosion, and deposition. It includes many components to make this unit complete, or for you to mix and match with tried and true activities and assessments you may already have.

The main topics covered in this unit are:

    - An overview and analogy to help students understand the difference between weathering, erosion, and deposition.

    - Types of weathering, how/why weathering occurs, and the changes made to rock/the Earth

    - Types of erosion, how/why erosion occurs, and how it can change a landscape and the Earth over time.

    - How deposition changes the landscape, land forms that can be created due to deposition

This bundle includes the products above, be sure to click on the preview to get a peek at the items you'll be getting!

    What's Included:

Presentation with Full Color Photographs and Discussion Questions

Individual Assessments ("daily grades") including a regular style assessment and an extended response assessment (both with keys!)

Interactive Notebook entries on "Overview of Weathering, Erosion, & Deposition," "Weathering," and "Erosion & Deposition." Each has three parts: intro/notes with or without blanks, activity, and follow up response to extend knowledge.

Matching/Sorting Activity Students look at event cards that describe something happening in nature, they must sort/match as they identify each event as weathering, erosion, or deposition! (These print in color or b&w, I have just line art versions too to help save on ink!)

Sequence Comics Activity that can be used to show changes over time due to weathering, erosion, and deposition. Scenario strips are included so you can assign your students specific events, or let them create their own!

STEM/STEAM Erosion Project that has students solving a real-life problem of beach front erosion. Students will be keeping records as they go from the brainstorming stage, into making proposals, testing the proposals, and presenting a final proposal to the "public." Students will keep a record of what is going on in each step, as well as have a reflection to fill out. I have provided extensive notes for you as well as many ways you can change this project to suit your needs! Different rubrics are provided to help you grade as you need to, as well as judge score cards in case you have other classes or adults come in to evaluate their projects (doesn't have to be included in final grade). Pretend money, price tags for materials, and even "star engineer" awards are provided so you can use the project as you need to! It does "check off" everything on the PBL checklist if your school follows that model!

Weathering Labs/Demonstrations whether you use these as demos or have students participate in centers or groups, these labs demonstrate physical and chemical weathering. There are three separate labs/demos included and all have notes/pictures to assist you. Each has its own lab sheet, and I have provided a generic lab sheet in case you need to change anything or have your own idea!

Visual Vocabulary Word Wall Cards for the vocabulary used in the unit: weathering, erosion, deposition, rock, sediment, glacier, barrier island, sand dune, river delta (these four land forms are used in this unit to give examples of these slow changes to the Earth!)

Vocabulary Study Sheet with and without definitions and visuals. That way, students can fill them in, or just use it as a study aid. (same words as the vocabulary wall - see above)

Vocabulary 3 way (or 2 way) Matching Cards/Game that is great for groups to match up when first learning the vocabulary, then use as a memory game as they learn more!

Quick Reference Unit Planning Sheet to help you write up your plans and access the pages you need quickly.

*Please note that the presentation is in PDF format, and can be viewed and advanced exactly like a PPT. Go to "View" > "Full Screen", and click to advance. Works with remotes too!
