Women Who Rock: I Am Series

This product was designed to help engage students while they learn about women around the world. It has been developed with differentiation in mind, guided report, pamphlets and short passages. It can be used in class to model research and note-taking, sent home as a out-of-school assignment, or used to provide capable students who need their learning extended with an independent project.

You can pair this project with a non- fiction text ( Who is Malala, Amelia , Joan series) or use it to integrate multiple sources ( website, book, article ).

I would first model a lesson on researching a country using the guided pamphlets in this product, and complete one country together before providing the students with an independent project. Make sure to stop and take notes along the way setting high expectations for your students. After you have jotted some notes down, have the student choose a women who inspired them the most to complete the flip book, you can either use one of the three short passages on these different women as a source or have the students choose their own source. Since, this product is guided, and allows for differentiation it will force students to look for main idea and details that support it.

I hope this product helps you and your students in many ways, especially the young girls in your class. This product was intended to inspire girls and show that that regardless of the era, or the challenges they may face they can accomplish anything they put their mind too.
