Amphibian the Frog: Educational Song for Life Cycles

This educational school song teaches the four main life cycles of a frog: egg, tadpole, froglet and frog. It is very effective for teaching life cycles in grades preK - 2. It has been road tested and loved by many children and I often have to play it more than once! I hope it works for you too. Enjoy! Copyright DudleBug Music 2010 ASCAP

The song, “Ladybug, Ladybug, Ladybu-u-ug,” appears on the Parents’ Choice Award-winning album, “Sharing the Same Stars” by Leeny and Tamara (2009). In part, the song was inspired by the research of the Lost Ladybug Project, which adopted it as its theme song. Natural tie-ins to using the song would be with a Science Unit in Life Science (Biology) involving Characteristics of Living Things, Organisms in Their Environments, and/or Structures and Functions. This is a flipchart you can use to show your students which center to go to on a daily basis. Each student will be placed in a group, themed using sea creatures. They will rotate to centers labeled A, B, C, and D. The rotation schedule is for Monday-Thursday. Friday is assessment :). I left my students' names so that the text box would stay on the page. Just enter your students' names and erase mine :).

Garbage Mountain written and recorded by Steve Trash and Kelvin Holly. This song is about finding smart ways to create less waste. The average American throws away 3-7 pounds of garbage everyday. That's a LOT of waste. Ultimately, it ends up becoming a big huge Garbage Mountain. This mp3 song has a bit of an "old school country feeling" (with some amazing guitar playing by Kelvin Holly of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, Little Richard Band) to it, and kids seem to really like it. Enjoy!

Importance of learning science

Learning science is particularly important for students as it equips them with the essential knowledge and skills to make sense of the world around them. Science education is not just about memorizing facts. It fosters critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving abilities. These skills are not only useful in school but also in everyday life beyond the classroom.

Benefits of learning science

Learning science offers many benefits to students both in school and beyond. In fact, it helps students:

  • Question the world around them and seek evidence-based explanations
  • Cultivate their ability to observe, experiment, and analyze data
  • Nurture a sense of curiosity, awe, and wonder about the natural world
  • Understand natural phenomena and the laws that govern the universe

With a solid foundation in science, teachers can help empower students to think critically, solve problems, make informed decisions, and engage with the world around them in meaningful ways.

Teaching with science resources

One of the best parts about science class is all of the possibilities for hands-on, collaborative learning! Think: labs, experiments, inquiry-based activities, and design challenges. These activities encourage students to explore scientific concepts by observing, asking questions, and conducting investigations. Additionally, with small group centers, students can engage in group experiments, discussions, and projects that require them to collaborate, share ideas, and solve problems together.
