Description

This no-prep lesson give students an overview of the 4 River Valley Civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient India and China.  This is a perfect introduction to your unit. Students take notes, label and analyze a map and engage in a close reading. Homework is included. You get a print and Google version. The Google version includes a read-aloud option for your struggling readers. This lesson is perfect as an overview of the topic, as an introduction, a review, or a sub-lesson.

=> A colorful, EDITABLE PowerPoint presentation with lots of Gifs.

=> A 2-page activity worksheet for students to complete their warm-up, note taking, writing prompts and a map analysis

=> Link to a Google version of the reading and activity that includes a READ ALOUD option.

Here's how the lesson plays out:

1. Warm-up: Students define either civilized or uncivilized on handout

2. Brief intro to 6 characteristics of a civilization

3. Assignment: Students complete the map work, then read short summaries and engage in writing prompt.

4. Homework is to research and answer questions they created.

5. 5-minute video if time allows.
