Description

Kids love motion, and the signs for the Pledge to the Christian Flag and the Pledge to the Bible may help children with their meanings. Many signs “look like” what they represent; for example, the sign for pledge/promise looks quite a bit like moving words from the mouth into a secure place where they can be kept until it is time to fulfill them.

American Sign Language (ASL) is its own language with its own syntax. Therefore, translations are rendered from English words to ASL concepts. Usually, words like to, the, and is are not used in ASL. However, since these pledges are for all ages, including children who are likely also learning English, a few of these often-omitted words have been retained for younger ASL signers who might find their omission awkward.

The lesson includes the English words translated to signs, hand-drawn pictures for the signs, as well as word descriptions by sign. A sample (including an illustration) can be seen in the Preview.
