Description
This is a foldable designed for interactive math notebooks.
Here is the link of me teaching this lesson using this resource on YouTube! Feel free to use this as additional support for your students.
This foldable is designed to showcase the 4 different values of slope, as well as refresh the process of completing a table of values and graphing points.
Each value: positive, negative, zero, and undefined is calculated in 3 different ways:
- Table: Calculating the slope of the difference of y divided by the difference in x
- Rise/run (once students make the graph)
- Slope formula
Once your students get started with this process- they will see the connections of how the slope is directly related within the equation given (as a 4th way to determine the slope of a line).
This foldable provides opportunities for color-coding as shown in the pictures.
Full answer key is included.
The older version of this foldable is also still included in this same download:
This foldable is used in the following way:
I tell my students to pick a color (they will use 4 different colors to really make the foldable POP!). They can use that color to outline the positive slope circle. Then the student opens the positive slope flap and plots two points (given by the teacher) and connects them to create a line. Those two points should create a positive slope, so it is up to you to select appropriate points. The students then determine that "From L ->R", (left to right) the graph is "INCREASING." They can then fill in the values for the rise over the run and simplify as needed.
The same procedure continues for the other flaps. :)
This foldable is also shortened (hence the leave blank) so that when placed in a notebook, students have room in their notes to write down any vocabulary terms necessary!
