Description

The geography of Greece played a crucial role in the development of the culture. Mountains kept city-states isolated and often at odds with one another. The rugged landscape made farming difficult and forced them to become expert seafarers to help with trade. The mountainous, peninsular terrain also gave them a strategic advantage when it came to war, which there would be plenty of.

None of this will make much sense if the students cannot generate a clear mental map of Greece, its topography and its major city-states. This assignment is designed to help make that mental map as clear as possible.

This lesson can be used independently as a geography skills lesson, or can be used as part of our bigger Ancient Greece unit.
