Description
Ancient history doesn't have to be dry and boring! Bring it to life with this easy and fun historical simulation.
In this activity, students take on the role of a ship captain on the lucrative ancient Phoenician trade routes. At each trading port, they will trade one load of goods for another load of goods which are in demand at the next port. The rate of trade is determined by the roll of the dice. Will the trade be a success or a failure? Will their ship sink before they can make the next port? Who will have the most gold when they return home to Tyre?
Students use critical thinking skills as they make seven stops along their route and trade items such as Greek pottery, metals, linen, and gold. Captains must decide the number of units sold at each port and whether it is better to get more trade goods or more gold.
An additional math and critical thinking challenge is also provided.
Includes two student simulation pages, instructions, teacher's script, and a sample simulation.
This is a great class activity to wrap up a world history unit on ancient Phoenicia. It requires very little prep work or equipment - all you need are these printouts and a pair of dice.
