How to Play Faceoff:

  • Teacher splits the class into two teams.
  • One student from each team races to answer a question correctly. Students buzz in to answer by touching the screen (if playing on a touchscreen) or using the keyboard or mouse.
  • Correct answers earn teams points and possible power-ups! (Power-ups are optional. If using them, they can be awarded to either team for correct answers, but are more likely to go to the losing team to help keep the games competitive.) Possible power-ups are listed below:
    • x2 Points - team earns double the point value of the question
    • Freeze - opposing team is briefly "frozen" and can not buzz in for the next question until they are "unfrozen"
    • Skip a Turn - opposing team is unable to buzz in at all for the next question

  • Once a question has been answered and points/power-ups have been awarded, have the next two students from each team faceoff for the next question, and proceed like this until all questions have been asked.
  • The team with the most points at the end wins!

Can students play on their own devices?

Yes! While Faceoff is a fun and exciting whole class game, it also works great as a partner activity! Have students pair up and compete against each other 1v1 by having 2 students play on one device. (There is a student link included to the game website that you can share with students so they can access the game on their device - no login necessary - just click and play!)
