What educators are saying

My students are into it. We are using them for an end of the semester art supply auction. They get "paid" every week. I deduct for behavior. But I said working artist get paid for their work and I believe you all should as well. So this has been used in classroom management techniques.
I’ve started using these for art supply/table kit checks (taking care of supplies) since we struggled with that last year and so far they’re loving them! They’ll get to trade them in for coloring sheets to take home every so often.

Description

Have you ever used classroom money as behavior incentives for your students? I have been rewarding my good students with art bucks after each art class for 12 years now and this system has really worked for me! At the end of the school year, on the last day of art class, I allow them to bring in their saved art bucks to exchange them for a prize or two! I call it the Art Store and it is quite an exciting and much anticipated event in my school!

Students earn art bucks by following instructions, keeping their volume low, helping each other, sharing, being kind, picking up extra chores like washing the extra dirty brushes or emptying the drying rack, cleaning up their tables and then their neighbors', quietly lining up to leave my room, answering tricky or difficult questions I shoot their way and just by generally being awesome! :)

In middle school, I have even used art bucks as an incentive to pay for an unassigned seat or in other words allow the student to choose where they want to be seated. They could also pay to choose a song to add to the class play list, or pay an art buck to listen to their own music while working on their artwork over headphones.

However way you choose to use these art bucks, I am sure they will add value to your classroom behavior management. If you would like to learn more, be sure to follow me on instagram @iluvcuppycake and check out my saved highlights under "Art Store".
