What educators are saying

My students were engaged the whole time. Just the right amount of challenge that they were wanting to work through
I used this resource at Halloween and it was perfect! It offered a great challenge to students who really understood the content.

Description

This is a CSI themed Math Mystery based around zombies and adding and subtracting integers. This activity will engage students by taking them on a journey to solve math problems and puzzles. Students narrow down the suspects by completing the integer activities and marking them off from the suspect list until one person is left.

The Story

The zombie apocalypse has started. Friends, family, and teachers have all fallen victim to the zombie virus. The dead have laid waste to your school. The remaining survivors have banded together to stage one final attack against the zombies.

You have been sent out to spy on the zombies to uncover who the leader is. The theory is, if you can kill the initial zombie, the zombie that started this nightmare off, then you will destroy all of the zombies.

Answer sheets are included. The opportunity to practice mathematical skills as well as problem solving in a more practical context with the addition and subtraction of integers is an ideal skill for students to develop. The high interest topics in these CSI mysteries is also highly motivating for this age group.

Math Mysteries are an independent escape room type of activity where instead of using locks, students identify suspects with puzzles and word problems. This mystery is perfect all year round, and perfect for Halloween in fall. Students in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth grade will love it.
