Description

Use this fun activity to review parenting styles, different types of families and stages of the family life cycle. 2 different options are included.

The 1st worksheet alligns with watching an episode of Modern Family (any epiosde that includes all three main families would work).

The 2nd worksheet allows you to show any sitcom of your choosing (pick one that shows three different families - ideally with a variety of different parenting styles, family types and stages of the life cycle included in the show.)

*This second worksheet can also be used for students that were absent when you did the activity in class. They will be able to use the assignment with any sitcom they have access to.

This activity would be great on an e-learning day/remote learning day or could also be used with a sub. It also works as a review before a test on families.

The documents can used as printed worksheets or attached electronically in your LMS (Google Classroom, Canvas).

  • parenting styles (authoritarian, democrative, permissive, uninvolved)
  • family types (two-parent, single-parent, extended family living together, step families, adoptive families)
  • stages of the family life cycle (beginning, child-bearing, parenting, launching, mid-years, aging)
