My class loved acting out these plays the week before Christmas break! A great chance to practice fluent reading and have some holiday fun! The stories were great too.

Description

Christmas Readers' Theater scripts: Are you looking for something fun to do for reading during the week before Winter Break and Christmas? This set of three Readers' Theater scripts will certainly spice things up! A bonus page for teachers includes a page that lists the number of lines by characters and an explanation about how I schedule this to be a weeklong Readers' Theater activity.

This BUNDLE contains three separate Christmas Readers' Theater scripts:

1. Kris Kringle and the Seven ElvesThis script contains 13 parts. This holiday version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the longest of the three. Your students will likely enjoy comparing the fairy tale they know to this holiday-inspired spin-off. It is set long ago when Santa is a young lad. It features an explanation of how Santa came to meet the elves and Mrs. Claus.

2. A Bright Idea for the Holidays- This script contains 8 parts. Mr. Henderson has a “bright idea” to decorate his house with an amazing Christmas star in order to make his family’s house the most brightly decorated in the neighborhood! His wife and children are worried, however, because Mr. Henderson has the solid reputation of trying to rush through tasks, resulting in catastrophes. Mason’s two friends end up helping. As usual, Mr. Henderson works too quickly and the huge star crashes to the ground.

3. Saving ChristmasThis script contains 8 parts. This story is set at the North Pole on the two days before Christmas. A problem arises when Prancer becomes sick and cannot be hitched to the sleigh to help deliver presents. A smart engineer elf, Evan, solves the problem by building a contraption that can take Prancer’s place.

********This resource is available in THREE FORMATS:

  1. TRADITIONAL PRINTABLES- Print each PDF and make paper copies. Distribute the scripts and your students will read from these paper copies.
  2. GOOGLE SLIDES ACTIVITY- With this format, students can read their script from a device.
  3. EASEL ACTIVITY- Students can read their script from a device with this option, as well. One added bonus to this version is that students can use the highlighting tool to highlight their lines.

This bundle also contains several "extras":

  • A THEME WORKSHEET- I will have my students complete this worksheet after each group has performed their Readers’ Theater script. I will do this to encourage each student to be an active, engaged audience member throughout the various performances.
  • A Monday through Friday SYNOPSIS of the LESSON PLANS I write as my class prepares to perform these Readers' Theater scripts.
  • A SUMMARY of each script
  • A PAGE about PARTS (how many parts each script contains, and how I would divide the parts if I need more than 29 parts)

Here's what teachers like you had to say about using these scripts in their classroom:

⭐️ Jackie D. said, "This was a huge hit with my fifth graders! We used this as a station during intervention time. They got into it so much that they wanted to perform the plays for the class. The best part was that even my students who don't enjoy reading were begging to be part of the plays! It was the best kind of reading practice ever!"

⭐️ Zoe G. said, "My students love readers' theatre! These Christmas ones were amazing. The kids loved working in small groups and reading them."

⭐️ Sharon P. said, "My students are LOVING these plays! We have been practicing, and they will be performing in front of an audience in a few weeks. I teach an LD 4-5 grade class, and they all can read the lines and understand the story!"

⭐️ Sydney K. said, "This resource was perfect for my 5th graders. They loved doing it in class so much that we split the parts up evenly and presented it to kindergarten and first-grade classes. I will use this every year."

⭐️ Sharp Simplicity said, "I needed a way to practice reading fluency/accuracy with my higher readers. They love these. Instantly they were involved and wanting more. Very fun readers theaters."
