Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson is the central focus of this lesson. If you haven't heard this before, be sure to download from iTunes, or head over to YouTube to listen to this motivating song, where the central theme is that you can always make a change for the better if you set your mind to it.
Song lyrics, 8 close reading questions, and theme/author's purpose graphic organizers are all included in with this guide.
Students will deepen their understanding and use critical thinking skills to understand the meaning of the song with the questions included.
The lyrics, the metaphors, and the overall theme of this song will create conversation with your students which will have them thinking deeply while reading the text.
