What educators are saying

My students loved the opportunity to work together, as long as I kept them focused on the task, by making it a competition to get as close to the definition as possible. It was nice that they had to be investigative to figure out what rule was being showcased, requiring more thought

Description

Need to teach or review common comma rules? This product engages small groups of students in working cooperatively to analyze example sentences and determine a comma rule. Instead of you lecturing on eight different comma rules, have groups work cooperatively in an inquiry-based approach. Groups will analyze sentence structure of given sentences and come up with their own comma usage rule and examples, then students will participate in a gallery walk in order to learn about and take notes on the other seven rules. This product also includes independent practice sheets, an exit slip, and a mini-poster for each rule that you can display in your classroom. This is a much more engaging and fun approach to teaching or reviewing commas!

Comma rules covered: Items in a series, quotations, introductory information, transitions, appositives, conjunctions, adjectives before a noun, city/state and dates.

Included in this bundle:
-Lesson plan
-Anticipatory set poster
-8 Mini-posters (also available separately as a free product)
-8 different small group sheets
-Student note sheet
-Two choice of independent practice (writing or editing)
-Exit slip
-Appropriate answer keys

Click here to download my FREE set of mini-posters, which is included in this product, in three different colors.
