Description

5 Activities for Beginning Completing the Square

1) It is a Perfect Square Trinomial Sort:

21 equations that students sort the into 2 categories: equations that are prefect square trinomials and equations that are not.

2) Factoring Perfect Square Trinomials Dominoes Matching Game:

Students match the trinomials to its factored form. This is another quick activity to check for understanding before learning to complete the square. Includes 10 cards.

3) Cut and Paste: Missing c-term

A starting activity for completing the squares. Student decide what the missing term needed to make a perfect square trinomial. You have 2 version for this activity.

4) Cut and Paste: Reorder the statements

Students cut out the statements and place them in the correct order to solve the quadratic equation by completing the square. There are 2 versions to this activity. The second version is included as both a worksheet and a bulletin board activity.

5) Find the Error:

This worksheet has 6 completed examples of completing the square. Each example has an error. Students must find the error and correct the problem.

As an alternative I have blown up each problem, one problem per page, for use in review station or as a bulletin board activity.

Differentiation:

These activities are designed for differentiated instruction. Students can be given the same activity but at different levels of difficulty. This can be done without their knowledge or you can allow them to choose the level they feel comfortable with. While some students will chose the easiest way out, others will like the challenge.
