What educators are saying

I loved that this was zero prep and my students found it very engaging. It was a fun way to practice the grammar skill for conjunctions.
My students loved this! They enjoyed being able to have some creativity and imagination in their writing. It also helped them practice using conjunctions in real-life.

Description

Are you looking for a fun way to review coordinating conjunctions? If so, I've got you covered!

My students LOVED this game as a way to review coordinating conjunctions so I wanted to share it with you all. Students are given an unfortunate event and it is their job to turn it into a fortunate event using the coordinating conjunction they are given. I had them work in partners and write their new sentences on a dry erase board. After they had a chance to change up the sentence, they shared their “fortunate events” with the class. We would then vote on who turned their sentence into the most fortunate event! The winning team would get a piece of candy and then it would be their job to vote on the winner the next round. I related this game as being similiar to “Show me your meme” to help students understand the goal. The goal? Have the BEST and most creative fortunate event!

If you don't want to use these slides for the activity listed above, you can simply display them as practice slides. I have included them as task cards (and a recording page) in case you would rather tape them up around the room for students to work on.

What is included?

1) Slideshow with ten (un)fortunate events. (Fully editable)

2) Directions to show students.

3) Teacher Directions

4) Slideshow turned into task cards in case you prefer to use them as task cards instead of a PowerPoint (and a recording page)
