Description
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech helped change the course of history, spread the message, and promote equality in America.
This DIGITAL close read asks students to first read excerpts from the "I Have a Dream" speech (the entire speech is NOT included in this activity), use context clues to discover new vocabulary, as well as to think deeply about the text.
This has been used by 4th grade students, however, you will need to make the decision on whether your students are mature and ready for this speech (just a fair warning). Students in grades 5th-8th grades will definitely benefit from this deep reading of the speech, as common core suggests that students read complex text, especially those that are historically based.
This activity also includes multiple links for students to explore using Google Earth. Students will be able to explore significant locations using Street View to explore Dr. King's life.
Directions are included on how to copy this file directly into your Google account. I hope this makes things easy for you, and super easy to share with your students. There is also a video included explaining how to share these resources.
