A multiday lesson that reviews your exact social studies standards with a Dr. Seuss theme for Read Across America Week (or anytime!)

In the end students will both understand how there is more to Dr. Seuss' stories that meet the eye. They will then write their own Seuss-like story about a social standard that you've taught! A really engaging way to learn and review the curriculum and right in time for the National Read Across America Week.

Day 1:

  • Students read to find out how Dr. Seuss wrote about historical events, and read an example.
  • Students discuss the tone and theme of Dr. Seuss' writings
  • Students receive their writing prompt and review the rubric to understand expectations

Day 2:

  • Students read an exemplar to further understand expectations
  • Students complete pre-writing brainstorming graphic organizer
  • Students write their story

Day 3:

  • Students finish stories and share their stories
  • Time permitting, students can draw illustrations of their story
  • Students complete self-evaluation
