What educators are saying

I think this is the first assignment that I've given that the students laughed when they read the posts that they needed to respond to. It was a highly engaging activity and a great way to integrate the philosopher's beliefs with "real life" situations.

Description

This activity allows students to think from the perspective of the Enlightenment thinkers and apply their theories to modern social issues. Through the fictitious District High School's Twitter account, 5 new policies changes are introduced The student's job is to read these new rules and take on the perspective of the philosophers of the Age of the Enlightenment: Hobbes, Locke, Diderot, Newton, Smith, Montesquieu, and Voltaire.

This activity is best for reinforcing textbook reading or notes on the Enlightenment. Can be done in pairs or cooperative groups. Key included.
