Explanation Text Examples - Ten Reading Samples with Comprehension

This package includes ten reading samples to read with your students. Each text follows the general format of an explanation text and includes the features commonly found in an explanation text. These texts are great for guided or shared reading. They are also the perfect tool for teaching students how to write and format an explanation text correctly using relevant language and features.

Each text includes a page of comprehension questions focusing on the features of an explanation text.

Explanation texts include:

• How do bees make honey?
• Why do the seasons change?
• Why are frogs slimy?
• How does rain fall?
• How hermit crabs change shells.
• The lifecycle of a butterfly.
• How do our lungs pump oxygen?
• What causes earthquakes?
• How is glass recycled?
• How do tsunamis form?

Text features include:

• Titles.
• Technical words.
• Paragraphs.
• Introductions.
• Conclusions.
• Visuals (Diagrams, photos, clip art).

US spelling and UK spelling versions are included in this download. Simply unzip the file and select the version that you require.
