What educators are saying

While my students are older than the suggested age range, they were super engaged. I really wanted to do something new and different to teach my students about factory working conditions and this really got their attention!
When asked to identify their favorite activities from the year, this lesson came up multiple times! They had so much fun, but they also engaged more deeply in a content some were previously not interested in. They scored well when tested on factory conditions too!

Description

In this highly-engaging United States industry lesson, students learn about factory conditions and labor conditions in 19th-century factories! Students react to images of child labor, complete a short writing assignment based on an excerpt from The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, view a video of life on an assembly line, then are enthralled with an assembly line home construction simulation! A MP3 file has been included to play the "factory sounds" as students compete in the simulation!

One of the favorites every year!

Enjoy!
