What educators are saying

We use this resource in May/June. My students love the idea of "splitting things up." The resources are hands on and engaging for FDK students. This could even be used in grade 1!
I was searching for hands-on fair share activities to do with my students and this resource was perfect! Lots of different options!
Also included in
  1. This bundle includes all 22 kindergarten math curriculum units. I have designed these units to be hands-on and exciting. I am a big believer in learning through play, and each center I have created encourages students to have fun while learning. I have also included response sheets and worksheets

Description

Let's learn about fair share! This is a unit all about fair share - with an introduction to fractions (whole, halves, thirds, fourths).

This unit is packed with lessons, centers, printables and lots of easy to make hands-on activities. Simply add simple math manipulatives (or materials from around your house including buttons, beads and rocks!) and you will have ready to use activities.

Here's what's included:

- 1 week (5 days) of complete lesson plans including whole group and small group lessons

- posters with explanation of fair share, fractions, remainders, etc.

- "Cookie Sharing Game" -> choose a number card and show how you can share the cookies

- "Fair Share Cards" -> look closely at the cards, are the items shared fairly? Why or why not?

- "Make It Fair!" -> a variety of posters that your students can use to show how to share things fairly

- "Solving Fair Shares" -> questions for your students to read and solve on the mats along with 3 blackline masters

- "Show Me An Equal Amount" -> learn the definition of the word equal and try this fun game

- "Equal or Unequal?" -> sort the cards into the piles

- "Introduction to Fractions: Halves" -> learn what half means, sort the cards

- "Make It Half" -> use a Popsicle stick to find and show half

- "Working with Remainders" -> variety of mats (2-section, 3-section, 4-section) to show how you can show remainder

- "Fraction Roll and Cover" -> roll fraction die, cover matching picture
