    Description

Teach your students about force and Newton's Laws of Motion using over one hundred pages of hands on activities, demonstrations, classroom posters, science text, STEM projects, and an assessment to complete your physical science unit. It will teach and assess your students about different forces and Newton's 1st , 2nd, and 3rd Laws of Motion.

Like this unit? Check out my physical science curriculum and save 20%!

    Students will learn:

    • Different forces such as balanced and unbalanced forces, inertia, gravity, friction
    • Motion such as acceleration, speed, velocity, and Newton's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd law of motion

This force and motion unit includes:

    • Classroom Posters: Terms include gravity, inertia, acceleration, velocity, action, reaction, and Newton's laws of motion.
    • Forces PRINT and DIGITAL science worksheets and graphic organizers to introduce balanced and unbalanced forces, gravity, inertia, and friction to your science students.
    • Measuring Motion: Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration: Students will learn the definition, examples, and practice using the formulas to measure the speed, velocity, and acceleration of objects. This lesson includes a teacher presentation, student note-taking sheets, a student reading packet, speed and acceleration word problems, a paper airplane lab activity, and a word search.
    • First Law of Motion: Students will learn Newton's 1st law of motion, "Every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force."
    • Teacher demonstration for the 1st law
    • Second Law: Introduces force, mass, and acceleration in an easy to understand format. Includes word problems to practice using the formula F = ma
    • Newton's Third Law: Students will learn Newton's 3rd law, "For every action (force), there is an equal and opposite reaction." Includes a hands-on activity; students create balloons and connect their understanding of Newton's laws. (Print and digital options for the laws of motion activities are included)
    • Newton's Review Activity includes 4 different worksheets of review for force and motion.
    • Graphic Organizers: This allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the three laws of motion.
    • Halloween Review Activity
    • Digital Escape Room
    • Review activities - TWO activities are included. The first has 24 printable (black and white and color), digital, and Boom review questions to assess knowledge of the three laws of motion. The second allows students to work together to summarize their understanding of the laws of motion.
    • Assessment
    • NGSS aligned MS-PS1-2 Project: Students will create a cellphone case to prevent it from being damaged when dropped.
    • STEM Project - Students will use materials to create a vehicle to keep an egg safe as it travels.

    Aligns to support NGSS MS-PS2.1

Bonus Activity: Celebrate National Aviation Day using this lesson on the four forces of flight.
