Description

Free St. Patrick's Day Craft: Textured Paper Shamrock art project. This free St. Patrick's Day art project includes all the steps you need to complete this project with your students, lots of pictures, and a quick print lesson plan.

Whether you are a classroom teacher, art teacher, or parent, this art project is for you and your kids!

Thank you for supporting my efforts to bring as much creativity to classrooms as possible. My goal is always to help classroom teachers, art teachers, and parents infuse their teaching with as much creativity as possible. I try to make my lessons easy for teachers and fun for kids!

My students always have a blast making this shamrock art project. They especially love when we make it from textured paper that we made ourselves!

Children LOVE to paint—that’s no surprise! But when you give them unusual tools (like a toothbrush or a plastic fork), they are engaged and ready to see what you have in store for them. After a stern warning not to brush their teeth with the brush after painting, you are set to go—Ha! I’m kidding!

This shamrock art project could certainly be done with green construction paper —but that would be missing half the fun!

So, be brave! Go for making your own textured paper with your students. You might find that you can use it for many art projects with your children at home or your students at school.

In this free download, you will find a lesson plan for my art activity (before now only available on my blog). I hope having my art lesson in this format will save you time and make this lesson easy to execute (maybe even make it easy to leave as a sub plan?!).

I have also included a printer-friendly version of this lesson as a “quick print” version to help you print this lesson and save ink.

Supplies needed for part one: Making the Paper

  • Large piece of paper (I used large white butcher paper)
  • Unusual painting tools such as toothbrushes, plastic forks, cups, sponges, etc.
  • Paint any color - but we used green and yellow for this project.

Supplies needed for part two: Making the Shamrock

  • Black paper 12” x 18” (or any background color you want)
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Textured paper from part one (or green construction paper)

There are so many great ways you can use this project. This lesson can be used in so many ways...

  • Art centers/stations
  • Substitute art lesson plans (use the PDF as your lesson plan)
  • St. Patrick's Day art craft
