Description

This video is an easy rainbow art activity for kids!

Everyone loves rainbows—especially children. We love the magic and the myriad feelings that rainbows evoke within us—the sense of wonder, an anticipation of good things to come, the beauty after a storm, calmness, serenity, not to mention ideas like inclusion and diversity. Now, more than ever, I think the symbolism of a rainbow is meaningful to us all.

This project is easy to do, requires very few supplies, and promotes good feelings!

In my video, I introduce a variety of topics such as…

  • primary colors
  • secondary colors
  • warm colors
  • cool colors
  • how to draw a rainbow
  • how to add patterns to each arch of the rainbow
  • how to use crayons, colored pencils, AND markers to get a variety of color on each rainbow row.

I also include options for children to write the words, “Somewhere over the rainbow” on their artwork and to mount their final artwork onto a colored piece of construction paper.

The following supplies will be needed:

  • paper
  • pencil
  • crayons, colored pencils, and/or markers
  • this teaching video

All you (or your kids) need to do is hit play, and I’ll take it from there.
