What educators are saying

I used this as a time filler once students were finished with their assignment at the end of the block.
These numberless equations are perfect to develop problem solving skills without kids being able to use the online solvers. lol

Description

Looking for a no prep Halloween activity for your middle school math class to do this October? This set of 3 holiday-themed picture equation puzzles and accompanying riddle worksheet is sure to be a hit with your students!

This Halloween math activity is meant to be a fun challenge for students to complete! It features 3 picture logic puzzles which each require students to use 3 picture equations to find the values of each of the pictures. The puzzles can be solved using systems of 3 equations (for older students) or guess and check and logic and deductive reasoning (for younger students). Once students solve the three puzzles, there are 7 order of operations problems (no exponents) for students to complete using the values they found in the puzzles. The 7 order of operations problems will lead them to the answer of a Halloween riddle.

The 3 puzzles can be given to students in worksheet form or task card form, as two printing versions are included in the download. This makes a fun whole class Halloween activity or a great way to challenge early finishers!

This activity is a great critical thinking and reasoning exercise for students and a good way to keep students engaged, while still working, around Halloween, as it incorporates the fun of the holiday into math class at a time when it is very hard for students to focus.
