Description

In this lesson, high school graphic design or art students create a poster using hand-drawn letterforms and colored pencils on black board to create a piece of art that resembles chalkboard art, but that lasts forever. A great lesson for secondary students to learn about composition, typography, and graphic design.

In this lesson student will learn to:

  • Go through the process of creating art, thumbnails, rough draft and final art.
  • Explore positive and negative space in the composition of their chalkboard quotes.
  • Learn to apply blending in colored pencil through the use of analogous colors.
  • Practice and apply the principle of unity through the use of decorative elements, color schemes and letterforms or shapes.
  • Demonstrate the principle of emphasis in their final artwork.

Included:

  • 6 Page Lesson Plans with detailed process notes, National Visual Arts Standards, Big Ideas, Objectives, Essential Questions, Final outcomes, assessment and more.
  • 34 Page Editable PowerPoint Presentation with detailed student process examples and notes
  • Student Self-Evaluation as an editable Word document
  • Hand-drawn lettering how-to draw accents sheets
  • Links to video resources
