In this engaging product on the history and evolution of Rock and Roll music, students begin in the 1940s to learn how Rock and Roll was born. Students learn about the "Big Band" and "crooners" of the 1940s and the style they captured (Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, "swing music). Then, students learn about the birth of rhythm and blues with Elmore James, the impact of radio DJ Allen Freed, record producer Sam Phillips, and the impact of Elvis Presley, Willie Mae Thornton, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and B.B King.

Students then progress to the 1960s to learn how Rock and Roll evolved even further with the introduction of boy and girl bands with the Shirelles, the Beatles, Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Monkees, and much more. Also, this resource hits on other rock movements, such as the use of music as a form of social protest (Bob Dylan and Creedence Clearwater Revival), the psychadelic rock movement (Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane), and the Detroit-based record label of Motown (Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, and Jackson 5). Finally, students progress to the 1970s where students are introduced to ballad groups like Led Zeppelin, Queen, and soft rock artists like Elton John, Bob Seger, and Fleetwood Mac.
