What educators are saying

This was great! We had to watch the video clip prior since youtube is blocked on my students computers but that was no issue at all. The kids learned a great deal about Jane Adams and the Hull House. Thank you!

Description

Jane Addams Web Quest Activity | Diverse Voices Project | 3 Part Web Quest

This Jane Addams activity is part of an exciting new project designed to increase diverse voices in Social Studies classrooms. This Jane Addams activity is a 3-part web quest. In Part 1 (READ), students engage with Addams' legacy as the founder of settlement houses, most notably Hull House, to help women, industrial workers, and those in poverty. Part 1 further introduces students to Addams' role in educating those at the homes, her work in the passage of the Federal Child Labor Law to stop the exploitation of children in the workforce, and her work supporting women's suffrage, the NAACP, and much more. Part 2 (WATCH) is a short video that students watch to reaffirm Addams' positive impact on American History, focusing on the role her tenement houses served in the communities in which they were built and the impact her support for child labor laws had on poor Americans. In Part 3 (INTERPRET), students engage in a primary source analysis related to Jane Addams' life.
