Journey's 5th Grade Vocabulary Lessons: BUNDLE Units 1-5

These are weekly PowerPoints for each vocabulary lesson in units 1-5 of the Journey's common core curriculum. Below is how we use them.

We teach using explicit vocabulary instruction, meaning we use four simple steps to teach each vocabulary word. Our students flourished when we began using these routines and we had almost 100% of all students exceeding on vocabulary tests. Here are the steps:

1. Say the word (have students repeat the word)

2. Read the definition (with students)

3. Read sentences, having students say the word in the sentence

4. Do a quick check (students show they understand the word by doing a quick activity)

**This whole process should take 30 minutes for all 10 words. To get the most out of it pair this product with our vocabulary boxes so students can write definitions as you go!
