What educators are saying

I purchased this poster for our school's Native American Heritage Month display. My students enjoyed coloring and assembling this poster. It looks great with all the other collaboration posters.

Description

Joy Harjo Collaboration Poster. The art activities in this resource are designed to complement/supplement any lesson about Joy Harjo, Native American studies/celebrations, and/or poetry units/celebrations.

These posters are the perfect way to start a unit or to cap one off. They are an engaging and entertaining way for students to work together to create a large poster of Joy Harjo. They make a great classroom focal point and a lasting example of collaboration for your students.

The final posters make for visually engaging displays. Hang them anywhere!

  • The Library
  • The front office
  • A hallway
  • Your classroom bulletin board

My posters make a great classroom focal point and a lasting example of collaboration for your students.

They also make great...

  • sub plans
  • morning work
  • early finisher activities
  • centers

..and more!

Recommended for any grade or discipline as there are 2 poster options available–coloring (for lower grades) and drawing (for older students/art students). There are also various bonus activities included in this product for early finishers or extensions.

INCLUDED

There are 2 poster options plus bonus activities included in this resource. Please use what works for you and your students. Please see the preview file for all that is included.

Poster Option #1: Collaboration Poster: COLORING

This lesson is easy and ideal for elementary school children. Each student is given one section of a large mosaic poster to color according to the instructions on each sheet. Once all sheets are colored and cut out, they are assembled to reveal a large, multi-colored collaboration mosaic/poster/mural of Joy Harjo.

Poster Details:

  • There are 30 pieces.
  • Each piece fits on a regular 8.5" x 11" piece of paper.
  • The final poster is approx. 37" x 45" (depending on your printer settings).
  • You will need markers, crayons, or colored pencils in yellow and red.

Poster Option #2: Collaboration Poster: DRAWING

This lesson is not hard but is more challenging than the coloring version. This lesson is best suited for middle school, high school, or art students.

Each student will draw their grid piece using a small version of their assigned grid cell as a reference. Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, the classroom poster can be assembled. This lesson engenders cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual grid cells to line up nicely and produce a nice-looking final poster of Joy Harjo.

Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, you can assemble the classroom poster. This lesson engenders cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual grid cells to line up nicely and produce a nice-looking final poster of Joy Harjo. This project is all about working together, and it's all about your students. As the teacher, you don't have to worry about anything—except for some cheerleading and encouragement!

BONUS Activities:

I have created a variety of bonus activities that individual students can work on when they are finished with their poster piece(s).

The handouts are for various levels, so you can find one that fits your grade level.

Included are:

  • Unscramble the portrait drawing
  • Unscramble the portrait cut and paste (with two grid variations)
  • Coloring page

I hope these extra materials are helpful to you.
