What educators are saying

A Space to Create Art always creates perfect lessons, my students were very successful with this project and really amazed themselves. They are always well-organized and easy to use.

Description

This sketch-notes worksheet is designed to be used to identify key paintings and life events of street artist Keith Haring. A traditional PDF with hotlinks, teacher instructions, and Google Slide Presentation is included. It is intended to be used as a web-quest activity or in combination with another lesson.

Learning about an artist has never been so much fun. Link to Digital Google Slides Presentation and Lesson are inside! Due to the nature of Haring’s work, his artwork is linked to pages in the slides/PDF document.

Worksheets and poster include the following BRIEF prompts with KEY:

  • Birth Date
  • Birth Place
  • 5 Paintings with dates
  • Accessible Art
  • Education
  • Artist Friends
  • Art Movement
  • His idea of movement
  • Famous quote
  • Painting of choice
  • Description of painting
  • Drawing/picture of favorite painting
  • 3 quick facts
  • Name of his retail shop that sold t-shirts, etc.

Included:

  • Teacher Instructions PDF
  • Student Packet PDF with hotlinks
  • Google Slides Presentation & Digital Version of Lesson
  • 11" x 17" Sketch Notes Worksheet
  • Worksheet Key

This project aligns with visual art, visual literacy, informational texts, biography research, nonfiction, and art history.

Please note: Keith Haring died of AIDS. Artists often lead difficult and sometimes troubled lives. I have given teachers the ability to edit this lesson as necessary, but please research the artist and make sure you are ok with students learning sometimes unfortunate events before purchasing. Because although I have done my best to choose a video and websites that are safe for children, I cannot control history.

I love seeing student artwork! Share yours with me!
