Labor Unions: Their Creation, Why They Were Needed, and How They Work!
What educators are saying
Description
In this Labor Unions and early US industrialization lesson, students learn about the creation of labor unions, how unions work, how unions are successful, how unions fail, and how they represent a turning point in labor history! Students read an introductory article with several focused student response questions, view an engaging 7-page PowerPoint intended to serve as a visual aid, complete a classroom skit (student text included!), watch two short videos (one on a recent strike and one that shows the successful negotiations between employer and workers), and finally listen a song dedicated to labor unions! Also included is a handout that focuses on the drawbacks of labor unions - great for a student comparative essay or class debate!
This lesson is included in the larger United States Industrialization unit, located here:
The United States Early Industrialization Unit!
