Main Idea and Details Bundle

This activity is designed to teach the skill “Main Idea & Details”. This is best used to introduce the skill, use as a station, or as an intervention. There are many differentiated options and this activity can be used with grades 3-6, depending on your group.

Here is what the bundle includes:

Poster- explaining main idea and details.

Graphic organizer- blank.

Graphic organizer- with titles and sentence frame.

Clip cards- 6 task cards to determine which is main idea vs. a matching detail.

8 paragraph task cards to determine main idea. 4 are multiple choice and the other 4 are “fill in the sentence frame”.

Sort- Sort and match the main idea & detail pairs.

Fill in the blank- either main idea or detail missing.

Fill in the graphic organizer- 4 examples where the students will come up with the main idea after being given 3 details.

*Laminate and make into reusable mats or copy and use as worksheets. We use them both ways!
