Description

Students will first find out what a claim is, then read two articles about banned books. Should books be banned in schools and libraries or not? This is also perfect for banned books week!

Students will then use the graphic organizer provided to write down notes on why some think books should (or should not) be banned.

Students will then begin to plan an essay where they will take a stand, making their own claim using specific details from the texts they read. This activity allows students to read articles, while practicing using text details to support their claim, a common core standard of writing.

I hope your kiddos enjoy!
