Description

David Macaulay is a renowned author and illustrator (The Way Things Work) who over the years has produced a series of very engaging educational films on the history of pyramids, castles, cathedrals, and other places. Many are available to purchase through PBS and all of them are easy to locate on YouTube. I have found the animated and historical documentary he created on castles to be a wonderful addition to the study of the Middle Ages in Grades 5-8. The video is also a highly interesting and focused look at life in the Middle Ages for your students. I recommend searching “David MacCaulay castles” on Google to learn about the book he wrote and for access to the video.

This is a 22-question multiple choice quiz that I give after watching the one-hour documentary. Students watch the video in two parts and to keep them focused I have created a quiz to give after each part. I allow them to take notes during the documentary that they can use on the quiz. This keeps them even more focused! Answers provided. This is a Word document that can be modified for your needs if you wish.
