WHEN TO USE:

  • EACH MORNING TO SETTLE IN AND FOCUS: Begin each day with a quick mindfulness activity from the cards to set a positive tone for the day.
  • TRANSITIONS: Use the cards as a way to transition between activities or subjects, helping students refocus and reset.
  • CALM CORNER: Keep the cards accessible in a designated mindfulness corner or area of the classroom where students can use them independently when needed.
  • BRAIN BREAKS OR AS NEEDED: Encourage students to choose a card at random and practice the activity whenever they're feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed.
  • DESIGNATED MINDFULNESS DAYS: Incorporate mindfulness activities into special events or themed days, such as "Mindful Monday" or "Wellness Wednesday," to reinforce the importance of self-care and mental well-being.

HOW TO USE:

  • Print and Laminate Cards: Print cards ensuring the correct correlating photos and descriptions are printed back-to-back. Laminate the cards (before cutting) for durability and ease if use.
  • Introduction: Explain to the class you'll be learning about mindfulness, which is a way to help us feel calm and focused. Use relatable examples, like paying attention to our breath, noticing our feelings, and paying attention to the present moment without judgment.
  • Discussion: Have a brief discussion about what mindfulness means and why it's important. Encourage students to share their thoughts and experiences related to mindfulness.
  • Activity: Introduce the Mindful Moments cards and explain that they contain different activities to help us practice mindfulness. Show a few examples of the cards and explain how they work.
  • Practice: Read a card aloud to the class and allow them to practice together or in small groups. Encourage them to focus on the present moment and notice how they feel.
  • Reflection: After the activity, have a brief discussion about how it felt to practice mindfulness. Ask students to share their thoughts, feelings, and any observations they made during the activity and how they felt afterwards.
  • Integration: Incorporate mindfulness activities into your daily routine, using the cards as a resource. You can use them as a warm-up activity at the beginning of class, as a transition between lessons, or as a way to calm down after a busy period.
