What educators are saying

This resource was an excellent addition to my South Asia geography unit and could be used with a sub if necessary.

Description

In this Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi reading and quotes activity, you receive a background reading assignment with guiding questions to teach the rise and protests of Gandhi as well as a quotes analysis activity to teach the words of Gandhi. In the background reading activity, students learn about Gandhi's life in South Africa as a lawyer, his medical team in the Boer Wars, his role in the Indian National Congress, his opposition to the Rowlatt Act, the Amritsar Massacre, Gandhi's arrest for sedition, his role in Salt March, and the ultimate Quit India Movement. In the second activity in this resource, students interpret five different Gandhi quotes, then choose one to investigate apply to modern-day society.
