What educators are saying
Description
Waubgeshig Rice's novel, Moon of the Crusted Snow, is a unique and compelling take on the apocalypse narrative, written, this time, with an Indigenous lens. The story follows Evan Whitesky and his community as they navigate a widespread power outage from their reserve in Northern Canada.
Published in 2018, Moon of the Crusted Snow is a high-interest novel that engages all learners. Although it was published two years prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, many events within the novel are eerily similar to events that have occurred recent years, which means your students will be able to make significant connections to the experiences and emotions of the characters, just as ours did!
The novel study includes OVER 400 pages/slides worth of resources (worksheets, activities, lesson plans, assessments, presentations and graphic organizers) - everything you need to teach this novel! You will have access to BOTH the GOOGLE DRIVE LINK (Google Docs/Slides) and the PDF resources, which means you can either print-and-go, or edit to suit the needs of your students! - Residential schools

- Indigenous Worldview
- and more!
As non-Indigenous educators, we recognize the ways in which we have benefitted from the historical and ongoing colonization of Turtle Island and the oppression of Indigenous Peoples. We recognize our responsibility as settlers and the descendants of immigrant families to continuously (re)educate ourselves, challenge and dismantle systems of oppression.
As such, we will be DONATING 100% OF THE SALES from this novel study resource to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS), an organization that “provides essential services to Residential School Survivors, their families, and those dealing with Intergenerational traumas” throughout Canada.
